If orthopedic surgery has been offered to your patient, before a surgical date can be assigned, a Medical Risk Evaluation must occur.

While your patient will also receive evaluations by Anesthesia, Orthopedic and Physical Therapy providers in the 4 weeks prior to surgery, a primary care provider evaluation remains the cornerstone for establishing overall health—and ensuring that medical comorbidities are optimized.

You may also consider referring your patient to the Hospital Medicine Perioperative  Clinic at the SFVA for this evaluation if it is convenient & preferred or if your patient has substantial medical co-morbidities.

A consult can be placed through CPRS (face-to-face or E-consult).
